30 baby smoothies

Practically, 30 baby smoothies for children from 6 months+ from 5 different supermarkets have been examined: Nemlig.com, Netto, Fakta, Superbrugsen and COOP online. All ingredients and nutrition labels are keyed and organised to give you an overview of ingredients, nutrition information, kg price and labelling.

Here is a presentation of the 30 products from the survey

Ingredients in baby smoothies

We've counted up all the ingredients in 30 baby smoothies. In total, there were 32 different types of ingredients. The most used ingredients in 30 smoothies (top 5) are:

  1. apple puree/juice (23 of 30 products),
  2. Lemon juice/concentrate (21 of 30 products)
  3. Banana puree/juice (16 of 30 products)
  4. Ascorbic Acid (11 of 30 products)
  5. Strawberry puree (8 of 30 products)

All 30 baby smoothies had 131 ingredients in total, resulting in an average of 4.4 ingredients in each product. The product with the fewest ingredients had 1 ingredient and the product with the most had 8 ingredients. No smoothies had added colourings or fragrances, so that's great to see.

The 22 out of the 30 products were either organic or were labelled with the EU flower.'

Single smoothies described as porridge

There were even baby products that were mislabelled when looking at online descriptions of the products. Some baby porridge was sold under the heading babysmoothies. So you have to be alert when shopping for baby smoothies online. We cross-checked information with the manufacturer and all smoothies featured in this test are defined as baby smoothies.

Price

The price per kilo of baby smoothies for children 6 months+ varies between 55,6 and up to 186,1 kr/kg in the 30 baby smoothies we have looked at. So there's a lot of money to be saved if you do a little research.

Nutrition in baby smoothies for children from 6 months+

The nutritional content of the smoothies also showed some surprises. Below is a summary of our nutritional calculations for all 30 baby smoothies from 5 supermarkets in Danish retail.

Watch the video below, where nutritionist Preben Vestergaard Hansen gives a summary and analysis of the nutritional content of the 30 baby smoothies for children from 6 months+.
